Rebuilding Lives

Rebuilding Lives

Amanda Vega and her two-year-old daughter were living with her brother when his landlord threatened to evict him if they didn't move out. They ended up on the street. Amanda contacted New Beginnings Emergency Shelter office and was given vouchers for a motel room and food. Soon she and her daughter moved into Transitional Housing and began the journey to increased income and a home of their own.

Formerly the Grace Hospital, the 720 N. Main building is a significant landmark and prominent in the memories of many Hutchinson citizens. Once a bustling complex, it fell into disrepair and became an ugly boarded-up eyesore. It was donated to New Beginnings and transformed into the building shown here that contains 29 affordable apartments as a solution to homelessness. It houses people of all age groups who now enjoy all the activities of a lively downtown.
