Housing Specialist

Housing Specialist

The Housing Specialist develops relationships with community landlords, provides rental assistance to people who are in danger of losing their homes or who are leaving New Beginnings programs, and works one on one with clients and their budgets to make sure that they can sustain their housing.

This important piece of New Beginnings' programs is designed to prevent homelessness or radically reduce its duration. The housing specialist is an educator as much as a  housing provider, working with both tenants and landlords for better relationships and outcomes.

New Beginnnings has been a successful recipient of Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing (HPRR) funds. These funds are used to pay a person's rent, deposits, and utilities for up to three months to help prevent homelessness during financial hardship. Properties eligible for the HPRR funds must be inspected and certified by the housing specialist, and the tenant must develop a working budget that shows they can sustain the housing after the funds go away.
